Salem Athletics Collects 71,000 Cans of Food for Families in Crisis

It's an annual tradition for fairgoers to participants in the annual food drive night at the Dixie Classic Fair.

In Forsyth County, 17 percent of residents are food insecure and 23 percent of children are food insecure.

Once Salem College coaches learned about these figures they decided to rally athletes together. This year, Salem College athletes from the softball, lacrosse and basketball teams helped collect over two truckloads of non-perishable food items on Oct. 3 for the Crisis Control Ministry.

Our group of athletes contributed to collecting 71,000 cans of food just in time for the holiday season. Crisis Control Ministry is a Forsyth County, non-profit organization to assist people in crisis to meet essential life needs and to become self-sufficient.  They provide a daily food pantry and they are the first free pharmacy in North Carolina.
