Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College Athletic Department celebrated an excellent 2010-2011 school year with the 2011 Salem College Athletic Awards Ceremony in a packed Club Dining Room. The ceremony highlighted three department awards, NC All-State Awards, Great South Athletic Conference (GSAC) awards, and team awards and letter winners. The three department awards are voted on by the entire athletic department at Salem.

Stephanie Hubbard (Sanford, NC) was presented with the Anne Woodward Athlete of the Year Award, which is given to a Salem College athlete who has achieved team and individual greatness during the 2010-2011 year. Hubbard was a three-sport athlete this year. She was on the GSAC All-Conference First Team and GSAC All-Conference Freshman Team for soccer, which finished with a 15-3 record and second in the GSAC regular season. She was the anchor of a soccer defense and scored an impressive 5 goals as a defender to help the team finish third in NCAA Division III in goals per game. She finished tied for second on the basketball team for most blocks and most steals.  Hubbard was also consistently the second best 800 runner on the track team this spring.

Kim Wisen (Madison, OH) was awarded with the Jess Byrd Scholar-Athlete Award, which is presented to a graduating senior who for four years has attained a strong academic record and exhibited qualities of sportsmanship, athletic ability and leadership. Wisen was a dual sport athlete for four years. She has been a two-time soccer captain, and is second in career assists. She also finished this tennis season with a 5-5 singles record and a 5-5 doubles record and was a leader on the team. She was selected to the GSAC All-Academic Team for both soccer and tennis this year.

Logan Rost (Lawrenceburg, TN) was awarded as the Scholar Athlete of the Year, which is presented to the student-athlete letter winner that is a sophomore, junior, or senior that has the best cumulative grade point average and is a contributing member of their sport. She has competed for the soccer team for two seasons as a midfielder and one season on the track team.

Two Salem student-athletes were honored with North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) All-State Awards this year. Shamaz Denerson (Atlanta, GA) was honored as a NCCSIA All-State College Division Second Team winner for basketball. Anna Trakas (Tryon, NC) was selected to the NCCSIA All-State College Division First-Team for soccer.

The award ceremony also highlighted this year’s winners of GSAC awards. Each athletic team also gave two team awards at the ceremony. The following are the winners of GSAC and Team Awards for this year:
