Bass hits walk-off home run to propel softball to split with Guilford

Bass (Clinton, NC) hit a walk-off home run in the second game to give Salem the 4-3 win. Guilford took the first game 11-2 in 5 innings. Salem improves to 4-10 after today's games, and Guilford is now 10-4.

In the first game, Abby Settles (Reidsville, NC) threw all 5 innings and only gave up 1 earned run in the loss. Bass and Kristi Morton (Trussville, AL) each scored a run and had 1 hit in the game.

In the second game, Shelby Drummonds (Boone, NC) picked up the win throwing the complete game and only allowing 3 runs off of 4 hits. Salem trailed 3-0 going into the bottom of the seventh.

In the seventh, Emily Devane (Lillington, NC) started off the hitting for the Spirits, and scored the first run of the inning. Drummonds and Danielle Lobo (Huntington, WV) both got hits. They were on base when Bass hit the game winning 3-run home run.

The Spirits open Great South Athletic Conference play this weekend when they travel to Huntingdon and LaGrange.
