Winston-Salem, NC-Abby Settles (Reidsville, NC) pitched a no-hitter in game 1 of a
doubleheader against Great South foe Wesleyan College. Settles pitched in both 5 inning victories for Salem. In the first game the Spirits won 8-0, and they took the second game 11-2. Salem ends the regular season with an 11-20 record, while Wesleyan finishes with a 4-21 record.
In the first game, the Spirits used a 4-run second inning to take control of the game. Natasha Walker (Riverview, FL) went 2 for 2 and added 4 runs batted in. Ellie Vizcaino (Wake Forest, NC) went 3 for 3 in game 1. Settles only allowed 2 Wesleyan runners to reach base in the game.
In game 2, the Spirits scored 8 runs in the first 2 innings. Vizcaino and Amber Bass (Clinton, NC) each went 2 for 3. Settles had 15 strikeouts in the 2 games.
The Spirits will now prepare for next weekends Great South Tournament at Maryville.
