Softball drops last two games at Triangle Classic

Raleigh, NC-The Salem College softball team lost their final 2 games at the Triangle Classic against St. Augustine and Meredith College today. The Spirits fell in a close 5-3 game to St. Augustine, and they lost to Meredith 13-0. Salem falls to 2-6, while St. Augustine improves to 2-11 and Meredith to 4-4.

The Spirits held a 3-0 lead until the top of the fifth against St. Augustine. St. Augustine was able to score all 5 of their runs in the fifth, and they held the Spirits off for the last 3 innings. Abby Settles (Reidsville, NC) gave up 7 hits and 5 runs in the loss. Kristi Morton (Trussville, AL) led Salem with 2 hits.

Salem was not able to hang with the Avenging Angels in the second game, and the game ended in the fifth due to the 10-run rule. Kayla Kennedy (Goldsboro, NC) had the only hit for the Spirits. Shelby Drummonds (Boone, NC) was the losing pitcher in the game. 

The Spirits return to action at home next Saturday when they host Sweet Briar.
