Softball drops two close games at first day of Triangle Classic

Raleigh, NC-The Salem College softball team lost their first two road games of the year today at the Triangle Classic hosted by William Peace University and Meredith College. Salem lost to Mary Baldwin College in the first game 6-3, and they lost to William Peace in their afternoon game 4-3. The Spirits season record falls to 2-4.

The Spirits fell behind 5-0 to Mary Baldwin in the second inning. The Fighting Squirrels added one more run in the 3rd to take a 6-0 advantage. Salem came back to score 2 runs in the 4th and one more in the 7th, but it wasn't enough and Mary Baldwin took their second win of the day. Shelby Drummonds (Boone, NC) was the losing pitcher for the Spirits.

In the second game, the Spirits took a 3-0 lead against William Peace in the second inning. The Pacers chipped away at the lead, and scored the game-winning run in the seventh. Drummonds went 2 for 3 in the game, and she had 2 runs batted in. Kayla Kennedy (Goldsboro, NC) also had 2 hits for Salem. Abby Settles (Reidsville, NC) was the losing pitcher for Salem in the game.

Salem returns to action tomorrow with games against St. Augustine and Meredith.
