Softball earns conference split with Covenant at home

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College softball team earned a split with Covenant College today at home in a Great South conference doubleheader. The Spirits dropped the first game 9-3, but stormed back for a 6-5 win in the second game. The Spirits improved their overall record to 9-20, and their conference record to 5-9.

In the first game, Abby Settles (Reidsville, NC) picked up the loss, but she threw 9 strikeouts. Ellie Vizcaino (Wake Forest, NC) went 2 for 2 in the game, and she had 1 run batted in. Amber Bass (Clinton, NC) went 1 for 3 with 2 runs batted in. The Spirits held the lead until a 4-run fourth inning by the Scots.

In the second game, Settles earned the win on the mound. Shelby Drummonds (Boone, NC) blasted a home-run to help spark the Spirits to victory. The game went back and forth, until Settles quieted the Scots with a 1-2-3 seventh inning. Drummonds went 2 for 4 in the game and had 3 runs batted in.

The Spirits wrap up their regular season and conference play when they host Wesleyan College on April 20th.
