Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College softball team began their NCAA era with an exciting come from behind victory against William Peace University in the second game of the double-header. Salem College President Susan Pauly started off the day by throwing out the first pitch to Amber Bass (Clinton, NC). After losing the first game 2-0 to the Pacers, Salem used a 12-run inning to erase a 12-run deficit on route to winning the second game 19-18. Salem's record currently stands at 1-1, and Peace holds a 3-3 record.

The first game only saw 6 total hits. Peace was able to score 2 fourth inning runs and hold on for the shutout. Shelby Drummonds (Boone, NC) only allowed 2 hits for the Pacers in the loss. 

The second game provided an explosion of runs, and a massive comeback by the Spirits. The Pacers went up 11-3 through four innings. After the top of the fifth inning, Peace held a 15-3 lead. Salem used the first ever home run hit by Bass, which was also the first ever Salem home run, to rally with 12 runs in the bottom of the inning. Bass finished the game with 3 hits and 3 RBI's. 

The Spirits would pour in 3 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, powered by a triple by Emily Devane (Lillington, NC). Peace came back in the top of the seventh to tie the game. Breanna Griffin (Millers Creek, NC) scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh for the win. 

Abby Settles (Reidsville, NC) pitched over six innings of the game. Drummonds picked up the win after stopping the Pacers rally in the seventh. Griffin finished with 4 hits in the win. Kristi Morton (Trussville, AL) and Kayla Kennedy (Goldsboro, NC) added 3 hits each.

Salem returns to action on Tuesday, when they host Averett University in a double header at 3:00 and 5:00.
