Softball uses another rally to split series with Averett

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College softball team used another late rally to split their home series with Averett University today. After losing 17-1 in the first game, Salem rallied from a 7-1 deficit to defeat the Cougars (10-9) in the second game. The Spirits improve to 2-2, and Averett is now 1-3 for the season.

In the first game, Shelby Drummonds (Boone, NC) pitched during the loss. Ellie Vizcaino (Wake Forest, NC) hit a home run for Salem to give the Spirits their only run of the game.

In the second game, the Spirits bats came alive. Amber Bass (Clinton, NC) went 3 for 4 in the second game, including a home run and four runs batted in. Drummonds and Emily Devane (Lillington, NC) each scored on a double by Bass during the bottom of the seventh to give the Spirits the win. Abby Settles (Reidsville, NC) had 10 strikeouts on the mound for Salem, and she picked up the win. Kristi Morton (Trussville, NC) also had 4 runs batted in for the Spirits.

Salem returns to action this weekend in Raleigh, when they travel to play in the Triangle Spring Classic hosted by William Peace.
