West Stanly High's Watkins commits to play softball at Salem

Locust, NC-The Salem College softball program is pleased to announce that Allie Watkins has committed and deposited to attend Salem next fall. Watkins played softball for Coach Wesley Kidd at West Stanly High School in Locust, NC.

The Salem softball team finished as the sixth seed in the Great South Athletic Conference (GSAC), in their first season of play in the NCAA. The Spirits were 7-9 in the GSAC and 13-22 overall, and picked up 2 wins in the Great South Tournament.

Watkins, a pitcher and utility player, played 2 years of varsity and 2 years of junior varsity softball for the Colts. She helped lead the team to  the Rocky River Conference Championship in 2011 and 2012. She was also selected as a 2011 Stanly News & Press All-Conference Pitcher. Watkins is currently the captain of the softball team.

She also played varsity tennis and varsity basketball at West Stanly. Watkins played club softball for the CV Storm, Charlotte Blaze, Diamond Stars, and Queen City Rockers.

Watkins has been in the National Honors Society in 2011 and 2012, and she is a NC Scholar. She is also a member of the Interact Club, Medical Science Club, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She is the daughter of LaRhonda and Joe Watkins.

Salem College is a NCAA Division III institution located in Winston-Salem, NC. Salem is the oldest educational institution for women in the United States, and was founded in 1772. The institution boasts a proud history of fostering independence in women.
