Morton wins GSAC Softball Player of the Week

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Great South Athletics Conference announced the spring sports Players of the Week for contests played March 30 – April 6 and, following voting by the league sports information directors, Agnes Scott's Anne Rinaldo claimed Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the Scotties' Holly Jones won Softball Pitcher of the Week and Kristi Morton of Salem captured Softball Player of the Week.

GSAC Softball Player of the Week – Kristi Morton of Salem

Senior Kristi Morton of Salem College had an outstanding week, hitting the difficult cycle on senior weekend.  She punctuate her career by starting the game by hitting a lead off homerun in the first game of a doubleheader. Morton had 13 at bats, hitting 1 homerun, 1 triple, 1 double and 4 singles. She scored 5 runs and delivered 2 RBI's. She went 7-for-13 at the plate batting .538 in four games.  Morton's slugging percentage was an outstanding 1.000 for the weekend.  Morton also contributed with 2 stolen bases and was responsible for producing 7 runs on an error free weekend in the outfield. 

 

GSAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week – Anne Rinaldo of Agnes Scott

Junior Anne Rinaldo picked up four wins over Wesleyan on Saturday.  In the first match, Anne and sister Claire defeated Lauren Mitchell and Fangjie Wu 8-0 at number one singles. Rinaldo went on to defeat Cayla Burroughs at number three singles 6-2, 6-2.  In the second match of the day, The duo picked up another 8-0 win over Mitchell and Wu. Rinaldo then defeated Akari Nobu 8-3 at number four singles. The wins are the fourth consecutive for Rinaldo in both singles and doubles.

 

GSAC Softball Pitcher of the Week – Holly Jones of Agnes Scott

Scotties' freshman Holly Jones pitched 6 strong innings in the second game of a double-header against Georgia Gwinnett College last week, resulting in a narrow 5-6 loss. Jones allowed 9 hits, 6 runs, 4 earned runs, 3 walks and had 4 strikeouts in the effort inside the circle.

 

 

The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released each Wednesday morning.
