Lauryn Smith selected as GSAC Pitcher of the Week

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Great South Athletic Conference announced the softball Player and Pitcher of the Week for all games played March 9 – 15 and, following voting by the league sports information directors, Molly Baker of Agnes Scott collected the Player award while Lauryn Smith of Salem captured the weekly Pitching honor.

Lauryn Smith pitched two outstanding games on the weekend getting victories over St. Joseph's out of New York and Arcadia of Pennsylvania. Smith pitched 5 solid innings against St. Joseph's University only allowing 2 hits in a 8-0 shutout. She continued with an 2-1 victory over Arcadia in a pitching duel the following day striking out 7 giving up 1 run. For the weekend she totaled 12 innings, giving up only 1 run, allowing only 1 walk and striking out 12.  She had a weekend ERA of .075.

 The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released each Wednesday morning.
