Softball scores 28 runs in sweep of Methodist

Fayetteville, NC-The Salem College softball team had their best offensive performance of the year. The Spirits won 14-3 in 6 innings in game 1, and fought back from an 8-0 deficit to win 14-11 in game 2 in 8 innings. Maggie Fritts had a monster day today as she went 6 for 8 with a homer, 5 runs, and 5 runs batted in. The Spirits improve to 13-9-2, while Methodist falls to 14-14.

Salem had 35 hits for the day. Brianna Morris was awarded the win on the mound in both games. She gave up 18 hits and 8 runs in 8.4 innings pitched. Lauryn Smith gave up 8 runs and 12 hits in 4.2 innings pitched.

Bre Crumley had 5 hits today. Kierston Garner and Amber Bass each had 4 hits. Smith had 7 runs batted in, including 6 in game 2. 

In the 2nd game, Methodist was leading 8-0 after 3 innings. The Spirits never gave up, and scored 7 runs in the last two innings to tie the game up. They piled on 4 more runs in the top of the 8th for the win.

Salem hits the road again on Friday when they travel to Emory & Henry.
