Softball splits on the road at Mary Baldwin

Staunton, VA-The Salem College softball team split a double-header with Mary Baldwin on the road tonight. The Spirits won game one 8-1, before they were upset 6-4 in game two. Maggie Fritts, Bre Crumley, Kierston Garner and Zoe Wade had a huge night at the plate for Salem. The Spirits are now 14-10-2, while Mary Baldwin is 6-24.

Lauryn Smith had a strong night on the mound. She picked up the win and pitched 10 combined innings only allowing 1 run on 5 hits. Brianna Morris pitched 3 innings and allowed 6 runs on 8 hits.

Fritts went 5 for 7 to have the best batting percentage for the day. Crumley went 4 for 9 with 3 runs batted in for the day. Wade hit a home-run and had 4 runs batted in all in the 2nd game. She also had a double and went 2 for 4. Kierston Garner went 4 for 9 today. Kayla Kennedy and Britani Peterson each also had 3 hits.

The Spirits return home to take on NC Wesleyan on Thursday.
