Softball falls to Wesleyan in GSAC Action

Macon, GA-The Salem College softball team was not able to finish their comeback and fell 5-3 today to Wesleyan in Great South action. Jennifer Vitarelli led the team as she went 2 for 4 with 1 run batted in. The weather caused a 75 minute delay, and the second game was postponed. The Spirits are now 15-12-2 overall and 1-2 in the GSAC, while Wesleyan is 13-18 and 3-2. 

Wesleyan jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first. The pitching was strong from both teams until the 6th, when Wesleyan put 3 more runs on the board. Salem attempted a comeback in the last inning, but they were stopped at 3 runs.

Lauryn Smith pitched 5 innings and gave up 5 runs on only 3 hits. Brianna Morris pitched one inning and gave up 1 hit. Salem had a 7-4 hitting advantage.

Hannah Ogle had 1 hit, 1 run, and 1 run batted in. Britani Peterson, Maggie Fritts, Amber Bass, and Briana Crumley all added 1 hit. Fritts had a double and Peterson had a triple.

Next weekend becomes huge for Salem in Great South action. They will now host Agnes Scott and Wesleyan as they try to take the Great South Regular Season title.
