Softball finishes regular season with sweep of Wesleyan

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College softball team celebrated seniors, Kayla Kennedy and Amber Bass, with a Great South sweep of Wesleyan College to conclude their regular season. Lauryn Smith and Breanna Morris pitched two strong games today. Salem is now 17-14-2 overall and 3-4 in the Great South. 

With the sweep, the Spirits move into second place in the Great South. The conference tournament starts in Macon, Ga this coming Friday. The seeds and times will be released later this week.

Smith pitched a gem in game 1. She threw 7 innings and only allowed 3 hits and 0 runs. Morris pitched a great complete game in the second game as she allowed 1 earned run on 6 hits.

Bre Crumley knocked in Lauryn Smith in the bottom of the third for the only run in the first game. Kennedy and Morris also had hits. 

In game 2, the bats came alive for Salem in the bottom of the 4th after falling behind 1-0 in the top of that inning. They took a 4-1 lead in 4th. Wesleyan closed the gap to 4-2 in the 5th, before the Spirits sealed the deal with a run in the 5th and 6th innings.

Morris and Crumley each had 2 hits and 2 runs batted in during the second game. Maggie Fritts finished 3 for 4 with 2 runs and 1 run batted in. Jennifer Vitarelli had 2 hits and a run. Kierston Garner added a hit and a run batted in.
