Raleigh, NC-The Salem College softball team led the majority of both games in a double-header at William Peace, before the Pacers were able to make two comebacks for wins. Peace won the first game 4-2 on a late homer. They came back for a 6-5 win in the second game. Jennifer Vitarelli and Kierston Garner each had 4 hits to lead the Spirits. Salem falls to 0-2, while Peace improves to 2-0.

In game 1, Lauryn Smith pitched a gem through the first six innings. Salem went ahead 1-0 in the second inning, before Peace tied it in the third. The Spirits took the lead back in the fifth and led 2-1 into the bottom of the seventh. Peace was able to hit 2 singles and then a homer for the walk-off win. 

In game 2, Salem's bats heated up for 15 hits and 5 runs. After falling behind 2-1 after the first inning, Salem scored four runs in the next two innings to take a 5-2 lead. The Pacers got 1 run back in the bottom of the third, before they scored 3 more in the bottom of the fifth. Brianna Morris pitched the first 5 innings and gave up 6 runs, while Hannah Nolan made her collegiate debut in the sixth inning on the mound and didn't give up a run. 

Morris started off her season with the first homer for Salem in game 1. Vitarelli had 2 hits in both games as the lead-off hitter, while Garner did her damage in the second game with 3 hits. Logan Bowling had a strong collegiate debut as she had 3 hits for the day, including her first homer in game 2. Montana Lineberger also had 3 hits in the second game.

Bowling led the Spirits with 3 runs batted in for the day. Kierston Garner had 2 doubles, while Bowling and Morris each had 1 double.

The Spirits will play their first home games of the season when they host Shenandoah this Sunday.
