Lineberger wins GSAC Player of the Week

ATLANTA - The Great South Athletic Conference announced the spring sports Athletes of the Week for contests played February 22 - 28 and, after voting by the league sports information directors, Wesleyan's Mellissa Webb (pitcher) and Salem's Montana Lineberger (player) collected the weekly softball awards.

GSAC Softball Player of the Week – Montana Lineberger of Salem

Sophomore outfielder Montana Lineberger had a record weekend for the Salem Spirits. She is the first Salem softball player to hit 3 homeruns in a weekend tournament series. Two of the homeruns were in back to back plate appearances against the nationally second ranked team in Division III, Salisbury University. In four games, Lineberger set an astonishing slugging percentage record on the weekend for Salem by hitting 2 singles, 2 doubles, and 3 homeruns, finishing with an incredible slugging percentage of 1.636. She had 5 extra base hits again setting a new record for the Spirits. Lineberger had a batting average of .750 with runners in scoring position and had an on-base percentage of .667. She also accounted for a staggering 14 runs delivering 8 RBI's and scoring 6 runs, and had 2 stolen bases with a walk and no strikeouts during the 4 game weekend. Her average was .636 against some of the toughest teams in the country. This statistically is the best weekend any Salem player has delivered in a 4 game weekend series in the history of the program.

GSAC Softball Pitcher of the Week – Mellissa Webb of Wesleyan

Senior pitcher Mellissa Webb led the Wolves to their first win of the season with an 8-0 shutout against LaGrange College. In that game, she struck out seven batters while only allowing three hits. For the week, she recorded 20 Ks and only walked 3 batters in 19.0 innings pitched.
