Garner and Morris win Player of the Week

ATLANTA - The Great South Athletic Conference announced the softball Players of the Week for games played March 7 - 13 and, after voting by the league sports information directors, Salem's Kierston Garner won her second straight and third overall Player of the Week award while her teammate Brianna Morris collected her second Pitcher of the Week honor of the season.

GSAC Softball Player of the Week – Kierston Garner of Salem

Senior Kierston Garner of Salem College continued her hitting ways. In four games last week she had 6 hits in 12 at bats batting .500 overall. She posted a double, 5 singles, scored 2 runs and delivered 5 RBI's. Garner's on-base percentage was .625 and her slugging percentage was .583 for the week. She was also clutch in delivering the game winning hit in the 8th inning versus Randolph.

GSAC Softball Pitcher of the Week – Brianna Morris of Salem

Brianna Morris continued racking up wins pitching for Salem as she picked two more victories over Guilford College and Randolph. Morris pitched 7 innings in the game picking up the 7-6 win over Guilford, followed by a 5-3 win over Randolph College. In the Randolph game, she pitched 9 innings giving up no earned runs and only walking two batters. With the two victories Morris leads the GSAC with 6 wins on the season.

The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released each Wednesday morning.
