Softball falls twice to New Paltz St.

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College softball team had their 6 game win streak snapped by New Paltz St. today at home. It took 8 innings for New Paltz to win game 1, 5-4. Salem fell 7-2 in game 2. Montana Lineberger led the Spirits with 4 hits for the day. Salem is now 12-10 overall.

Salem held a 1-0 and then a 2-1 lead in the first game, before New Paltz came back to tie it both times. In the 8th inning, New Paltz took an 5-2 lead before Salem scored 2 runs to almost complete the comeback in the bottom of the 8th inning. In game 2, the game was tied at 1 after 4 innings, before New Paltz scored 5 runs in the 5th inning.

Bri Morris pitched the first game and allowed 5 runs on 7 hits. Hannah Nolan pitched game 2 and allowed 5 runs on 6 hits. Lauryn Smith pitched both games in relief and allowed 2 hits and 2 runs in 3 innings.

Kierston Garner hit 2 home runs in the second game and finished with 2 runs batted in. Maggie Fritts had 3 hits for the day, and finished with 2 runs batted in. Garner and Jennifer Vitarelli each scored twice to lead the Spirits. Salem will return home on Tuesday to take on North Carolina Wesleyan.
