Softball dominates Agnes Scott to take control of GSAC

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College softball team scored the last 21 runs today in a doubleheader thrashing of Agnes Scott. The Spirits won the first game 13-3 and the second game 8-0. Both games finished early due to the run-rule. Brianna Morris and Montana Lineberger each had 4 hits for Salem.

The Spirits are now 21-13 overall and 5-1 in the Great South (GSAC). They will just need to win one game tomorrow when they host Wesleyan (2-2) to clinch the GSAC regular season.

Morris pitched the first game. After she allowed a 3-run homer in the first, she calmed down and didn't allow any more runs. She gave up 3 runs on 8 hits in 6 innings. Lauryn Smith earned the shutout victory in the second game. She allowed just 6 hits and no runs in 5 innings.

Salem pounded 5 home runs today. Morris, Lineberger, Hannah Ogle, Maggie Fritts, and Kierston Garner all hit one out of the park. Garner, Fritts, Briana Crumley, and Logan Bowling all had 3 hits. Lineberger finished with 2 doubles, while Fritts, Crumley, Jennifer Vitarelli, Garner, Morris, and Britani Peterson all hit 1 double. Lineberger led the team with 6 runs scored. Fritts and Ogle each had 5 runs batted in.

Salem will host Wesleyan tomorrow at 1:00 and 3:00.
