Smith and Bowling win GSAC Honors

ATLANTA - The Great South Athletic Conference announced the spring sports Players of the Week for contests played April 11 – 17 and, after voting by the league sports information directors, Salem teammates Logan Bowling (player) and Lauryn Smith (pitcher) swept the softball Player of the Week awards.

GSAC Softball Pitcher of the Week – Lauryn Smith of Salem

Lauryn Smith pitched outstanding for Salem as she picked up two more victories with wins over conference opponents Wesleyan College and Agnes Scott to help lock up the regular season title in the GSAC.  Smith pitched 12 innings picking up a 8-0 shutout win over Agnes Scott followed by a 4-0 shutout win over Wesleyan. In the Agnes Scott game she pitched a 5 inning shutout giving up no earned runs, striking out 5 and did not walk a single batter.  She followed that performance with a 4-0 shutout win over Wesleyan with no earned runs, 4 strikeouts and finishing with no walks allowed.  Total for the weekend she finished with two wins, an ERA of .000, 9 strikeouts, no walks, and two complete game shutouts.  

GSAC Softball Player of the Week – Logan Bowling of Salem

Logan Bowling of Salem College hit outstanding on the weekend. In four games she had a slugging percentage of 1.000 off of 7 hits in 12 at bats to go .583 for the weekend. Bowling had solid at bats hitting 5 clutch singles, a triple, and topping it off with a 2 run homer. Logan had an on-base percentage of .583. She is second now in the conference in total home runs with 6 on the year.  

The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released each Wednesday morning.
