Softball Player of the Week
Briana Crumley, Salem - The junior first baseman from Lexington, North Carolina went a combined 12-for-21 (.571) with a .571 on-base percentage and an .857 slugging percentage to go along with four runs scored, ten RBI and two home runs as the Spirits earned a 5-1 record last week. In an 11-1 win over Southern Virginia, Crumley was 1-for-3 with one run scored. In a 3-1 loss to Frostburg State, Crumley was 2-for-3. In a two-game sweep of Shenandoah, Crumley was a combined 6-for-10 with one run scored and four RBI. Finally, in an 11-8 victory over Randolph, Crumley was 3-for-5 with two runs scored, six RBI and two home runs including a game-winning three-run shot. Softball Pitcher of the Week
Melissa Eckman, Piedmont - The sophomore from Perry, Georgia earned two complete-game victories in three appearances last week for the Lions. Eckman tossed a total of 14.1 scoreless innings, allowing 14 hits, two walks and 11 strikeouts. In a 3-0 victory over Millsaps, Eckman allowed eight hits with five strikeouts. In a 1-0 win over Emory & Henry, Eckman allowed six hits and two walks with six strikeouts. Also Nominated: Taylor Bailey, Averett; Morgan Corland, Maryville; Taylor Jackson, Meredith.

 

Softball Rookie of the Week
Amanda Dacunto, Salem - The freshman shortstop from Raleigh, North Carolina went a combined 7-for-13 (.538) with a .538 on-base percentage and a 1.000 slugging percentage to go along with four runs scored, six RBI, two home runs and one stolen base as the Spirits earned a 5-1 record last week. In a doubleheader sweep of Southern Virginia, Dacunto was a combined 3-for-6 with two runs scored, six RBI, two home runs and one stolen base. In a 3-1 loss to Frostburg State, Dacunto was 1-for-3. Finally, in a 13-12 win over Shenandoah, Dacunto was 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Also Nominated: Kaitlyn Aherron, Averett; Cassie Collins, Greensboro; Madison Garrett, Piedmont; Samantha Jacobs, Methodist; Aly Snider, Maryville.

 

Softball Rookie Pitcher of the Week
Sydney Vaughn, Salem - The freshman from Winston-Salem, North Carolina earned a 3-1 record with one save in four appearances last week for the Spirits. Vaughn tossed a total of 13.1 innings, posted a 5.77 ERA and struck out six batters. In a 9-0, five-inning, win over Southern Virginia, Vaughn earned her first career start and victory in the circle as she tossed five-scoreless innings allowing four hits with four strikeouts. In relief, Vaughn captured two wins over Shenandoah and her first career save versus Randolph. Also Nominated: Taylor Bailey, Averett; Aly Thomas, Methodist.
