Softball splits during second day in Raleigh

Raleigh, NC-The Salem College softball team split two games on their weekend trip to Raleigh. They defeated Wilson College 8-0, before falling to nationally-ranked Christopher Newport 9-6. Salem is now 7-5 overall.

The Spirits defeated Wilson in 6 innings. They scored in the bottom of the 1st, 3rd, and 4th to make it 3-0. Salem added 5 runs in the bottom of the 6th for the easy win. Lauryn Smith picked up the shutout win to move to 2-2 overall. Hannah Ogle led the team with 2 hits and 2 runs batted in, while Madison Burch hit a double for the Spirits in the win.

Salem held multiple leads against CNU. They went up 3-1 in the top of the 3rd and then took a 6-4 lead after the top of the 5th. CNU scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 5th and held on for the win. Brianna Morris allowed 14 hits in the loss. Logan Bowling hit a homerun for th Spirits, while Madison Burch and Briana Crumley each had 2 hits. 

Salem plays at Ferrum on Wednesday.
