Coach Long earns 100th win in sweep of Wesleyan

Winston-Salem, NC-Head Coach Scott Long earned his 100th career win in a USA South sweep of rival Wesleyan. Long reached the coaching milestone with the 5-1 and 9-1 victories over the Wolves. Salem is now 12-9 overall and 4-2 in the USA South, while the Wolves fall to 2-14 and 0-8.

Salem outscored the Wolves 14-2 on the day as their bats came alive, and their pitching was top notch. Lauryn Smith picked up the win in the first game as she gave up 1 earned run in 7 innings. Brianna Morris earned the win in game 2 as she allowed 1 run in 5 innings on the mound.

Jennifer Vitarelli crushed a 3-run homer in the bottom of the 6th of game 1 to break the game open. In game 2, Amanda Dacunto hit a homer and Vitarelli hit a triple. Brittany Morton, Briana Crumley, and Dacunto all hit doubles today. Vitarelli and Morton each had 4 hits to lead the Spirits, while Vitarelli led the team with 7 runs batted in.

The Spirits return to home action Thursday against Agnes Scott.
