Softball goes 4-0 this weekend

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College softball team defeated Meredith and Methodist twice this weekend. The Spirits are now 18-9 overall and 10-2 in the USA South, which ties them for first with Piedmont with just a handful of remaining games.

The first game with Meredith went to 10 innings, before Salem got the game winning run in the bottom of the 10th for the 7-6 win. Lauryn Smith picked up the win on the mound. Jennifer Vitarelli led the team going 3 for 5 from the plate, while Briana Crumley had 2 runs batted in.

In game 2, the Spirits won 3-1. Smith also earned the win in that game. Montana Lineberger hit a home run, while Crumley and Breanna Herman each had doubles. 

Game 1 versus Methodist was a 2-1 win for Salem. Sydney Vaughn earned the win on the mound with 5 strikeouts. Vitarelli was 2 for 3 and Lineberger hit a double. 

In the second game, Salem won 9-6. Crumley went 2 for 4 with 4 runs batted in.

The Spirits hit the road to play Piedmont on Wednesday.
