Softball moves back into first with sweep of Covenant

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College softball team picked up two important USA South West Division wins against Covenant at home. The Spirits defeated Covenant 6-4 and then 12-2. Salem moves to 24-13, while Covenant falls to 20-14. The Spirits currently hold first place in the division going into the final weekend.

Lauryn Smith allowed 10 hits and 4 earned runs as she picked up another win. Amanda Dacunto had a double and a triple, while Montana Lineberger and Brittany Morton each hit home-runs. Morton drove in 4 runs in the game. Dacunto and Morton each led the team with 2 hits.

Sydney Vaughn picked up the win in game 2. She allowed 5 hits and 2 runs over 5 innings. Brianna Morris hit a home-run and drove in an impressive 6 runs in the win. She also was 3 for 3 for the day.

The Spirits wrap up their regular season on Saturday against Maryville at home.
