Softball Sweeps Greensboro on the Road

Greensboro, NC-The Salem College softball team won two important USA South East Division road games at Greensboro today. It took extra innings to win 4-3 in the first game, and the Spirits won the second game by the run rule 8-0. Kayla Ogle and Miranda Barker earned the wins on the mound. Salem is now 3-1 in conference and 10-6 overall, while the Pride fall to 6-10 and 0-2. 

In game 1, the Spirits controlled the game for the majority of play before Greensboro tied the game at 3 in the bottom of the 7th. Salem scored in the top of the 8th to win 4-3. Salem cruised to an 8-0 win in game 2, including 4 runs in the first 2 innings.

Ogle gave up 3 runs on 10 hits in 8 innings in game 1. Barker pitched a 6-inning shutout in game 2 and allowed just 1 hit. 

Barker, Jennifer Vitarelli, and Breanna Herman each had 3 hits for the day. Barker had a team-high 3 runs batted in. Montana Lineberger had a 2 run homer in game 2. Barker, Vitarelli, Amanda Dacunto, and Brittany Morton all had doubles.

Salem returns home to host Guilford in non-conference action on Tuesday.
