The 2018 USA South Softball Tournament first round has concluded today, April 7, as in the West Division, second-seeded Piedmont defeated fifth-seeded Huntingdon, 12-4, in the third and deciding game of their best-of-three game series. Yesterday, all of the other best-of-three series were concluded with doubleheader sweeps.
In the East, top-seeded Salem swept six-seeded William Peace, second-seeded Meredith took two from fifth-seeded Ferrum while third-seeded Averett took care of fourth-seeded N.C. Wesleyan. In the West, top-seeded Maryville had little trouble with sixth-seeded Wesleyan and fourth-seeded Covenant pulled the upset by sweeping third-seeded LaGrange.
The six teams earning series wins now advance to a double-elimination tournament to take place in LaGrange, Georgia as a part of the USA South Spring Sports Festival.
