THE SHORT STORY

RALEIGH, NC — The Salem College softball team claimed a solid victory against Meredith's Avenging Angels 6-1, but Merideth came back in game two with an 8-5 win in Sunday's USA South doubleheader.

The Spirits (13-10,4-4) drove in a total of 6 runs in six innings before Meredith (15-6, 9-1) found its only run in the game.

Much of the Spirits defensive display was due to a superb showing by sophomore pitcher Miranda Barker who allowed only four hits against 23 batters.

In game two, the teams traded hits and runs, with both scoring two runs in the first inning.

By the fifth inning, the score was tied 5-5, before Meredith found three runs in the sixth, bringing the score to 5-8.
