GAME NOTES
GAME 1
- In game one Salem had a hard time getting runs on the board.
- Defensively Salem held Averett to a close game until the top of the 7th where they allowed 5 runs.
- Brittany Morton and Addison York both had doubles. Brittany Morton, Addison York, and Kayla Ogle all recorded RBI each.
GAME 2
- Salem came out stronger in the batter's box for game 2 and recorded 14 hits.
- Junior, Brittany Morton lead the team in hits tonight. She recorded a double, a home run and 4 of the 6 RBI's for Salem.
- Brianne Coleman, Hannah Escala, Madison Burch, and Misty Thompson also created opportunities for Salem in the batter's box.
THE BASICS
WINSTON-SALEM, NC — The Salem Spirits Softball team was an outscored in back to back games Wednesday evening by the Averett Cougars 8-3 and 9-6.
Home runs by Averett (25-12, 9-5 USA South) in game one combined with Salem (19-12, 8-6 USA South) struggling to get runs on the board gave the Cougars a bit of a headstart. Salem added a run in the bottom of the fourth bringing the score to 3-1. But the Cougars answered with a two-run homer followed up by a three-run blast.
Salem scored twice in the bottom of the seventh, but it wasn't enough with a final score of 8-2 in game one.
In game two, the Spirits came out stronger in the batter's box, with Salem bringing it to a 6-6 tie with a grand slam in the sixth inning.
But that was the last run for the Spirits while the Cougars tallied another 3.

The Salem Spirits hit the road Thursday, April 11 for their next doubleheader against Randolph at 3 and 5 p.m.
