WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – First-year Carmen Duffey delivered two hits, including her first collegiate double, while Maleh Tate finished with three hits for the Salem softball team, which fell in a doubleheader clash with crosstown rival Carolina University by scores of 5-1 and 9-0 in nearby Clemmons, N.C. on Tuesday afternoon.

Duffey connected on her double in the first inning of the first game, scoring Tate from second, and was one of three Salem sluggers with a hit in the second game of the doubleheader. Meanwhile, Tate delivered two hits in the first game, including a double to lead off the game.

The Spirits finished off the first game of the day with eight hits, receiving five of those hits from the number three through number seven hitters in the lineup.

SALEM HIGHLIGHTS
-Maleah Tate came through with her fifth multi-hit game of the season, second in March, as she finished 2-for-4 from the leadoff position for the Spirits.
-Carmen Duffey recorded her first career extra-base hit, a double, scoring Tate in the process.
-The 3 through 7 hitters in the Salem lineup accounted for five of the eight hits. The combination of Madeline Brown, Duffey, Savanah Atkins, Karma Morrison and Madison Long had one hit each for Salem.
-Both Kat Price and Isabella Morales tossed three innings each. Price allowed five hits, three runs (three earned runs) to go along with one K. Morales surrendered two hits, one run (one earned run) and fanned two Bruin hitters.
-Salem manufactured the first run of the game in the first after a leadoff double by Tate. Three batters later, a double by Duffey scored the speedy Tate from third base.

CAROLINA U. HIGHLIGHTS
-Carolina tallied seven hits in the contest, receiving two hits from both Lexi Hall and Grace Andrews.
-Hall capped off the game by hitting 2-of-3 with two runs scored, notching one double and one triple along the way.
-The tandem of Andrews and Makayla Johnson also came through with doubles for the Bruins.
-Danielle Brooks tossed a complete game eight hitter for Carolina University, fanning three Salem hitters along the way, while issuing just one walk.
-Carolina evened the game at 1-1 in the home half of the third with an RBI single by ZyMaijah Thomas that scored Andrews.
-The Bruins had a three-run fourth inning, highlighted by doubles from both Hall and Andrews.
-Carolina plated its final run of the game in the fifth following a triple from Hall that brought home Thomas from second.

-Cassandra Miller tosses 1.1 innings, allowing five hits, seven runs (five earned runs).
-Junior hurler Kat Price pitched 2.2 innings, allowing two runs, both earned, on four Carolina University hits.
-Maleah Tate swipes her team-leading 12th stolen base of the season.

CAROLINA U. HIGHLIGHTS
-Carolina offense is responsible for nine hits and nine runs, drawing four walks along the way.
-Three Bruin hitters have multi-hit games, including Makayla Johnson (2-3, RBI, 2 runs, 2 triples), ZyMaijah Thomas (3-3, 2 RBI, 2 runs, double, triple) and Kalea Bolch (2-3, RBI, 3 runs, double).
-The Bruins scored seven runs in the first two innings, capitalizing on six hits along the way.
