WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – After struggling to find its offensive rhythm in the first game of its USA South Conference opener against Meredith, the Salem softball team delivered nine hits and scored six runs in game two. However, the Avenging Angels completed the doubleheader sweep by scores of 10-0 and 8-6 at Blixt Field in Winston.

Salem's offense was limited to just one hit, which came from Savanah Atkins, in the opening game of the series. Meanwhile, the second game of the doubleheader was highlighted by the trio of Atkinson (2-3, RBI), Maleah Tate (2-3, 2 runs) and Karma Morrison (3-4, run, RBI, double).

SALEM HIGHLIGHTS
-Salem capped off the game with just one hit, which came on a single from Savanah Atkins.
-Salem sent four pitchers to the mound, including Cassandra Miller, Isabella Morales, Kat Price and Katie Gerhardt, and the Spirits staff combined for one strikeout and issued just two walks.

MEREDITH HIGHLIGHTS
-Meredith pounded out 14 hits in the game, including four extra-base hits, which included two doubles and two home runs.
-The Avenging Angels had four players with multi-hit games, including Sarah Manis (3-3, 6 RBI, 2 runs, HR), Savannah Talley (3-3, run), Rheanne Burden (2-3, RBI, run, double) and Mariah Bell (2-2, RBI, double).
-Hannah Weigle picked up the win after allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out nine Salem sluggers.
-The Avenging Angels put three runs across in the first inning, scoring their first two runs with a single to centerfield by Manis that scored Emilee Lewis and Mia Staggs. Avery Puryear traded places at second with Manis, scoring the third run of the inning on a double.
-Manis extended the Meredith lead to 7-0 in the second with a grand slam, one of three hits in the frame.
-Lillie Davis moved the lead to eight for the Avenging Angels in the fifth on a solo home run.
-Burden drove a double down the left field line that plated Salem Zeka from second base. The final run crossed the plate on a single to right field by Abby Fowler, which brought home Burden.

SALEM HIGHLIGHTS
-Katie Gerhardt tossed 2.1 innings, allowed eight hits, seven runs (five earned runs) and struck out one Meredith slugger.
-Isabella Morales tossed 4.2 innings in relief, scattering six hits along the way, allowing just one run and fanned two Meredith batters.
-Salem scored its first two runs of the afternoon in the home half of the first when Cassandra Miller drove a grounder to second that scored Tate. Carmen Duffey scored on a wild pitch with Karma Morrison at the plate.
-Savanah Atkins singled to third, bringing home Miller, while Madeline Brown grounded to third to score Morrison to account for two runs for the Spirits in the fourth.
-Morrison manufactured the fifth run of the game for the Spirits in the fifth when she connected on a single up the middle that scored Tate.
-Duffey was responsible for the final run of the game for the Spirits, which came on a sacrifice fly to right field, as Ashlyn Stokes trotted home in the sixth.

MEREDITH HIGHLIGHTS
-The top-third of the Meredith lineup accounted for six of the team's 14 hits. Those hitters included Emilee Harris (2-3, 2 RBI, run), Mia Staggs (2-5, run, RBI) and Sarah Manis (2-5, 2 RBI).
-Mariah Bell (3-4, 2 RBI, run, triple) led all Meredith hitters from the plate, accounting for two RBI and a triple.
-Lillie Davis, who pitched four innings and allowed five hits, five runs and converted 5 K's, gave way on the mound to Hannah Weigle, who claimed the win after allowing just four hits, one run and struck out two Salem batters.
-Meredith grabbed a 4-2 lead in the top of the second, scoring the first run of the game on the Bell triple. Lewis drove Bell home with a single to left field, evening the game at 2-2.
-With two runners on, Manis roped a single up the middle to provide the Avenging Angels with a 4-2 advantage.
-The lead grew to 7-2 in the bottom third, with the first run coming on a single to left by Bell, plating Davis. Lewis put a run on the board when she was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Staggs brought home the final run of the frame with a grounder to first that plated Morgan Knight.
-The Avenging Angels added an insurance run in the top of the sixth as Jessie Woller singled to third to bring home Lindsey Drew.
