WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Five members of the Salem senior class competed at Blixt Field for the final time in their career, while sophomore Maleah Tate swiped the 38th base of her career and first-year Carmen Duffey converted her team-leading seventh double of the slate in a pair of 7-0 setbacks to USA South Conference foe Mary Baldwin on Wednesday afternoon.

The combination of Cree Bass, Madeline Brown, Katie Gerhardt, Jessica Pinnix and fifth-year senior Savanah Atkins took to the field for the final time at home. Brown and Atkins capped off the first game with hits for the Spirits, while Gerhardt converted a single in the second game of the series.

Meanwhile, Spirits fans got a glimpse of the future of the program with Tate tying Jennifer Vitarelli for most career stolen bases (38), which came in the second game. In that same contest, Duffey connected on her seventh double of the season, a team-high.

First-year pitchers Isabella Morales and Griffin Pearce also gave Salem fans a preview of the remaining three years, combining for three strikeouts.

SALEM HIGHLIGHTS
-Taela Belcher reached on a one-out single to first, putting the first runner of the day on the base pads for Salem.
-Fifth-year senior Savanah Atkins connected on a single through the right side of the infield to open the second.
-Senior Madeline Brown connected on a two-out single to left field in the fifth, marking the third hit of the game for the Spirits.
Salem had one hit each from the trio of Taela Belcher, Savanah Atkins and Madeline Brown.
-Isabella Morales was one of three pitchers to enter the circle for the Spirits, finishing with a pair of strikeouts.
-Griffin Pearce also entered the circle, tossing 3.2 innings, finishing with a strikeout.
-Junior Kat Price tossed two innings, allowing three runs and four hits during her time in the circle.

MARY BALDWIN HIGHLIGHTS
-Leanna Rankin drew a leadoff walk and scored from second on a double to right field by Molly Thompson, allowing the Fighting Squirrels to put the first run of the game on the board in the first inning.
-Thompson streaked home for the second run, following a wild pitch in the first.
-Reagan Frazier opened the second inning with a single to third and scored two batters later on a two-run home run to Kendal Switala, providing Mary Baldwin with a 4-0 advantage.
-The Fighting Squirrels added three runs in the top of the sixth, taking advantage of four hits and one error along the way. The first run. Came on a single to centerfield by Leanna Rankin, plating Kendal Switala and Trinity Thomas. The seventh run of the game came on a sacrifice fly by Molly Thompson.

SALEM HIGHLIGHTS
-Cassandra Miller reaches base with a single up the middle in the home half of the first, the first hit of the game for the Spirits.
-Madeline Brown picked up the second hit of the game for the Spirits in the home half of the second on a grounder to second. Teammate Griffin Pearce followed with a single off the third baseman's glove, putting two on for Salem with one out.
-Sophomore speedster Maleah Tate reached on a dropped third strike. Tate stole second and in the process tied the program's all-time stolen base lead with Jennifer Vitarelli.
-First year slugger Carmen Duffey opened the fourth frame with a double off the left field wall. The Spirits would go onto load the bases in the inning.

MARY BALDWIN HIGHLIGHTS
-In similar fashion to the first game, Mary Baldwin was the first to score, which came on a base knock to left from Allison Crum, scoring Molly Thompson.
-The Fighting Squirrels tacked on their second run of the game in the second as Reagan Frazier reached on an outfield error. Frazier scored the unearned run as Molly Thompson brought her teammate home from third on a sacrifice fly.
-Mary Baldwin puts across three runs on three hits in the top third. The first of those runs came on a virtue of an Emily Hall double, plating Hadley May. Reagan Frazier followed with a single to left, scoring Allison Crum, while Trina Thomas brought home Hal on a sacrifice fly.
-May delivered a two-run home run in the fourth, stretching the Mary Baldwin lead to 7-0, on a two-run blast to right field.
