Brown Named to USA South All-Sportsmanship Team

ROME, Ga. – Salem softball team earned its fourth USA South Conference accolade of the 2024 campaign when senior Madeline Brown was named as a member of the All-Sportsmanship Team by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.

It marks the third major award for Brown in her collegiate career after being named as the Salem Department of Athletics Nan Tilley Service Award Winner (2023) and the Jess Byrd Scholar Athlete of the Year (2024).

Brown recently put the finishing touches on her collegiate career after playing in 86 games, delivering 63 hits, including 13 doubles and four triples, resulting in 21 RBI. She finished with six stolen bases along the way.

The four triples in Brown's career left the Thomson, Ga., native fifth in program history in that category. She was also among the Top-15 sluggers in on-base percentage, closing 13th all-time with a .411 on-base percentage (.411) after coming through with 41 hits and 22 walks in 135 at-bats.

Brown enjoyed her best statistical season in 2023, when she hit .325 (26-of-80), was a lifetime .293 hitter at Salem (63-of-215).

In 2014, Brown played in 31 of 36 games and tallied the second-most RBI (11), behind only Cassandra Miller's 22. She finished off the season with a .275 batting average along with a .330 on-base percentage and .375 slugging percentage. Brown closed out the season with four multi-hit games, including a 4-for-4 performance, where she tallied two triples in a 9-8 win over Carolina University on February 17th.

Brown also had three hits in a 14-9 victory over St. Andrews (Feb. 22) as well as two hits in USA South Conference play at Greensboro (April 13) and Brevard (April 16).

Brown joins teammates Isabella Morales and Cassandra Miller, who also were honored by the USA South Conference this season. Morales was twice named USA South Conference Rookie Pitcher of the Week on February 19th and February 26th. Miller brought home USA South Rookie of the Week honors on April 22nd.

Additionally, Brown is the sixth different Spirit to earn All-Sportsmanship Team honors. The previous winners include Katie Bilbrey (2017), Brittany Morton (2018), Stephanie Galioto (2019), Abby Shelton (2022) and Jessica Pinnix (2023).
