Rocky Mount, NC- The Salem College Spirits played the North Carolina Wesleyan College Battling Bishops Sunday afternoon in a non-conference basketball contest. The Spirits jumped to a nine point lead in the first half but the Bishops battled back to trail by only two 31-29 at intermission. In the second half, Salem once again grabbed a nine point lead only to watch it dwindle away. The Bishops outscored Salem 20-7 in the final minutes of the game to secure their third victory of the season 69-57.

Salem College (3-10) was led by Casey Jones (So, Winston-Salem, NC) who scored a game-high 22 points and also secured nine rebounds. Kelsey Rector (FY, States Road, NC) scored 14 points while grabbing 4 rebounds and 3 steals. Shakila Springs (So, Winston-Salem, NC) had a game-high 10 rebounds and scored 8 points.

North Carolina Wesleyan College (3-2) was led in scoring by Desiree’ Driver (18 points), followed by Essence Chambers (17 points) and Cheyenne Hall (10 points). Hall led the Bishops with eight rebounds.

Salem College will return to action on Thursday, January 10, in the Piedmont Baptist College Tournament in Winston-Salem, NC. The Spirits will play Trinity College with a 1 pm tip off time.
