Rector Breaks Scoring Record in Spirits Victory

Asheville, NC- The Salem College Basketball Team traveled to western North Carolina to play against the Warren Wilson College Owls. For the second consecutive game, the Spirits only suited up five players. After a slow start, Salem College pulled away to lead at half-time 44-20. The Spirits ran the floor well as they scored on numerous fast breaks. Despite having no substitutes for the five starters, the second half continued to go Salem’s way as they defeated the Owls 83-40.

Kelsey Rector (FY, State Road, NC) broke the school single-game scoring record with 31 points. The previous record of 27 was held by Alex Ervin and Shakila Springs (2006-2007 season). Courtney Sauer (FY, Carthage, NC) had a career scoring night with 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Michala Michaux (So, Morganton, NC) scored 15 points dished out 12 assists (school record) and had 7 rebounds. Jasmine Glenn (So, Winston-Salem, NC) led the Spirits in rebounding with 12 to go with her 7 points and 8 steals. Stephanie Wilson (So, Morganton, NC) scored 6 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and stole the ball five times for Salem College (8-14).

The Warren Wilson Owls (1-15) were led by Georgia Aton (11 pts, 4 reb), Curry Aton (7 pts, 8 reb) and Laura Dison (6 pts, 11 reb).

Salem College will play their final game of the 2007-2008 season on Thursday, February 14, at home as they host Bennett College. Tip-off time is 7 pm.
