Six Spirits Score Double-Digits in Win

Buena Vista, VA- The offense of the Salem College Basketball Team finally hit on all cylinders as the Spirits cruised past Wilson College 92-59 in the consolation game of the Southern Virginia University Basketball Tournament. Six Spirits scored in double-digits as Salem won their third game of the season.

Salem exploded for 56 points in the first half and led by 35 points at the intermission. Coach Jackson shuffled four players in at a time as every player on Salem’s roster received at least 15 minutes playing time in the win. Salem’s defense created 41 turnovers by Wilson College (0-8) and stole the ball 29 times for numerous fast break points.

Casey Jones (So, Winston-Salem, NC) led the Spirits (3-8) in scoring with 19 points, followed by Alex Ervin (So, Morganton, NC), Courtney Sauer (FY, Carthage, NC) and Kelsey Rector (FY, State Road, NC) with 13 points each. Jazmine Gilbert (FY, Fayetteville, NC) scored 12 points and Michala Michaux (So, Morganton, NC) added 11 points. Crystal Mills (FY, Winston-Salem, NC) led the Spirits in rebounding with nine followed by Jones with eight.

Wilson College was led by Dana Bennett with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Sarah Engelsman added 10 points.

Salem College will return to action on January 4 as they travel thirty minutes east to play Greensboro College at 7 pm.
