Spirits Break School Scoring Record in Win

Winston-Salem, NC- The Salem College Women’s Basketball Team played Trinity Baptist College in the opening game of the Piedmont Baptist College Basketball Classic Thursday afternoon. The Spirits opened the game with 16 straight points and cruised to a 68-23 lead at half-time. In the second half, Salem continue shooting well (53% for the entire game) and won easily 122-43. The 122 points was a new school record for points scored in a single game.

 

Casey Jones (So, Winston-Salem, NC) led the Spirits with 26 points, 19 rebounds, 5 steals, 2 assists and 2 blocks. Jazmine Gilbert (FY, Fayetteville, NC) scored 21 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Kelsey Rector (FY, State Road, NC), Courtney Sauer (FY, Carthage, NC) and Stephanie Wilson (So, Morganton, NC) each scored 19 points. Michala Michaux (So, Morganton, NC), Shakila Springs (So, Winston-Salem, NC) and Billie Harmon (Jr, Reidsville, NC) scored six points apiece while Springs grabbed nine rebounds.

 

Trinity Baptist College (0-7) was led by Brittney Watson with 16 points and Stephanie Henderson with 13 points.

 

Salem College will return to action Saturday afternoon in the championship game vs Piedmont Baptist College. Game time will be 3:30 pm in the Piedmont Baptist Gym.
