Basketball cruises to quarterfinal win

Montgomery, AL-The Salem College basketball team cruised past Wesleyan for the 3rd

time this season, 78-16, to win their quarterfinal game and advance to the semifinals. The Spirits reached the semifinals of the Great South Tournament for the 1st time for the basketball program. They tied the school record for most wins as they improved their record to 16-10. Wesleyan ends their season with a 1-18 mark.

GSAC Player of the Year, Satavia Taylor (Chicago, IL), led the team with 17 points and 4 assists. Bria Patterson (Winterhaven, FL) led the team with 4 steals, and Jasmine Shabazz (Buffalo, NY) finished with 10 points and 6 rebounds.

Salem controlled the entire game. They went into halftime with a 33-10 advantage. In the 2nd half, they held the Pioneers to just 6 points. The Spirits had a 49-23 rebound advantage. 

The Spirits will play Agnes Scott tomorrow in the 1st semifinal game of the tournament. The Scotties defeated Trinity Washington 66-39 in their quarterfinal game. Salem and Agnes Scott split this season, but Salem blew Agnes Scott out last week, 65-40.
