Basketball falls in GSAC Championship after record-breaking season

Montgomery, AL-The Salem College basketball team completed one of the most successful seasons in the history of the Salem Athletic Department with a 73-61 loss against Huntingdon College in the Great South Championship Game. The Spirits came into the game as the 2nd seed and the Hawks were the 1st seed and host. GSAC Player of the Year, Satavia Taylor (Chicago, IL), led the Spirits with 15 points and 2 blocks. Salem ends the season with the most wins in basketball history at 17-11.

The opening half went back and forth, and the Spirits clawed back from a 10-point deficit to only trail 32-27 at the break. Salem took a 38-35 lead with 16:47 remaining, but it would be their last lead of the game. The Hawks went on a 31-10 run over the next 13 minutes, and they held on for the win. 

Jasmine Shabazz (Buffalo, NY), who was honored as an all-conference selection, added 14 points and 8 rebounds. Bria Patterson (Winterhaven, FL) completed her successful tournament with 9 points and 8 assists. 

The Spirits had an 11-8 steal advantage in the game. The Hawks led 42-39 on the boards.
