Basketball loses defensive battle of GSAC undefeateds

Decatur, GA-The Salem College basketball team lost a low-scoring game between the 2 remaining Great South undefeated teams today in Georgia. In a

shamazshoots
defensive battle, Agnes Scott pulled away from the Spirits in the 2nd half for a 41-33 win. Salem falls to 8-8 overall and 2-1 in the Great South, and Agnes Scott improves to 7-7 overall and 3-0 in the GSAC.

The Spirits jumped out to a 5-4 lead early in the 1st half. Agnes Scott closed the half with a 12-8 run to take a 16-13 lead into the break. In the 2nd half, the scoring picked up and Salem cut a 25-17 deficit to 31-28 with 5:45 remaining. The Scotties used foul shooting to seal the win.

Jasmine Shabazz (Buffalo, NY) led the Spirits with 6 points and 13 rebounds. Shamaz Denerson (Atlanta, GA) added 4 points and 10 rebounds. Each team finished with 47 rebounds and the Scotties held a slight 4-3 steal advantage.

The Spirits return to action tomorrow in Georgia as they take on Spelman in Great South play at 4:00.
