Basketball loses heartbreaker to Methodist

Winston-Salem, NC - After losing by double-digits in December at Methodist, the Salem College basketball team barely lost tonight at home to the Monarchs, 66-63.  Shamaz Denerson (Atlanta, GA) had her best night of the year with a double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds.  The Spirits fall to 7-5, while Methodist improves to 8-3.

Salem let the Monarchs know it was going to be a tight game by jumping out to a 9-3 advantage in the first 5 minutes. The 2 teams would go into the break tied 33-33. Methodist jumped out to a 13 point lead in the first 4 minutes of the 2nd half. Salem would not go away and the game came down to 2 missed 3-pointers by the Spirits at the end.

Denerson had an impressive 9 offensive rebounds, including 8 in the 1st half. Satavia Taylor (Chicago, IL) finished with 8 points and 4 steals. Denika Harden (Youngstown, OH) finished with 10 points for Salem.

The Spirits return to action on Saturday when they host Covenant in an important GSAC game at 2:00.
