Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College basketball team took time from the hustle and bustle of their competitive season to give back to families with sick children.  The Spirits have been bumped and bruised in battles thus far in the Great South, but that didn’t stop them from helping families with sick children have a comfortable and clean place to lay their heads. The Spirits visited the local Winston-Salem Ronald McDonald House and assisted in house cleaning and day-to-day preparation for those with sick children. The Ronald McDonald House program provides a “home-away-from-home” for families so they can stay close by their hospitalized child at little or no cost. 

First-year players Bria Patterson and Quntashea Lewis organized the service project and put the Spirits community support on display by engaging in conversations with guests and preparing the house for new guests through vacuuming, laundry folding, and grounds pick-up.

The Ronald McDonald House welcomed the Spirits with open arms because they feel that volunteers make a difference in the lives of all the families that come through their doors - by cooking, by hosting, by listening, by nurturing, by simply being there and helping.
