Basketball upset on the road at Covenant

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College basketball team lost on the road to Covenant in overtime, 71-70.qlayupThe Spirits went into the game tied for 1st in the GSAC halfway through conference play and Covenant came into the game in 5th. Salem was led by Satavia Taylor (Chicago, IL), who finished with 28 points. The Spirits fall to 11-9 overall and 4-2 in the GSAC, while Covenant improves to 8-8 and 2-4.

The game was close throughout with the Spirits taking a 29-26 lead into the break. The Spirits would lead by as many as 11 in the 2nd half, and they held an 8-point advantage with 3:43 remaining. The Scots closed regulation with a 13-5 run.  Overtime went back and forth with a couple free-throws sealing the win for Covenant.

Shamaz Denerson (Atlanta, GA) finished with a double-double of 10 points and 14 rebounds. Quntashea Lewis (Hartford, CT) continued her hot play with a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds. Covenant had a 47-46 rebound advantage.

The Spirits will hit the road again this weekend for a huge conference game at Huntingdon on Saturday at 2:00.
