Satavia Taylor honored on NCCSIA All-State Basketball Team

NCCSIA Announces 2012-13 North Carolina College Division All-State Women’s Basketball Team

The North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) announced its selections for the 2012-13 College Division All-State Women’s Basketball Teams on Tuesday. Ten players representing eight different North Carolina Universities and Colleges were named to the 2012-13 NCCSIA Women’s Basketball College Division All-State Teams.

Satavia Taylor (Chicago, IL) became the third basketball player in Salem College history to earn All-State Honors. Taylor was the Great South Player of the Year in 2013, and she broke several statistical records for the team. Taylor was a key force in the basketball program earning 17 wins, which was a program record and finishing in 2nd in the Great South.

Three respective league players of the year highlight the first team, which is represented by five different schools. Catawba College had two selections, one on first team and one on second team, while Wingate University also had two selections, both on second team. 

Greensboro College’s Bianca Richburg was named the USA South Player of the Year and was ad3hoops.com All-American after averaging 22.2 points a game for the Pride. She averaged a double-double as a senior with 11.5 rebounds a contest. Those totals led USA South, where she also ranked second in blocked shots at 2.1 a game.

Kristen Hanzer of Fayetteville State University earned CIAA Player of the Year honors as well as All-Atlantic Region and honorable mention All-America honors from Daktronics. She ranked second in the league in scoring at 18.2 points a game and pulled down 6.5 rebounds a contest for the Broncos. Barton College’s Nyeshia Willie was selected as the Conference Carolinas Player of the Year after leading the league and ranking 18th nationally in scoring with an 18.6 per game average. She was also a first team All-Southeast Region pick. Willie reached 1,000 career points and helped the Bulldogs to the NCAA Tournament for a second straight year.
Chloe Bully was a first team All-South Atlantic Conference honoree as a sophomore for Catawba College. She led the team and ranked fifth in the conference in scoring at 14.6 points a game while adding a team-high 4.3 assists per contest. 

Rounding out the first team was Tamara Nesmith from Mount Olive College. She was a first team All-Conference Carolinas selection and a Daktronics All-Southeast Region pick. The senior averaged 16.5 points and 9.1 rebounds a contest while adding 3.9 assists a game.

Second team honors went to Chantal Dunbar and Janitsha Williams of Wingate University, Armeka Booker of Mars Hill College, Satavia Taylor of Salem College and Catawba’s Antoinette McPhail. 

Nominees were submitted by North Carolina sports information professionals and voted on by the NCCSIA members.

Founded in 2002, The North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions from the state of North Carolina. The purpose of the organization is to promote collegiate athletics at all schools. Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina, and whose area of responsibility lies within sports information. 

NCCSIA selects all-state teams in the University (Division I) and College (Division II, III, NAIA) divisions for men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, softball and baseball.
