Basketball almost pulls off upset at Emory

Atlanta, GA-The Salem College basketball team almost pulled off a historic upset at Emory University. The Spirits jumped out to a fourteen-point first half lead, but Emory was able to come back for a 69-60 win. Satavia Taylor (Chicago, IL) had a game-high 22 points for Salem. The Spirits fall to 0-2 this season, while Emory improves to 1-0.

The Spirits grabbed a 10-8 lead with 16:20 remaining in the first half, and they held on to that lead for much of the game. Salem opened up a 28-14 lead with 7:47 left in the first half, and they went into the break with a 36-31 advantage. Emory regained a 43-42 advantage with 15:26 left in the game.

Taylor finished with 8 rebounds and 2 steals. Jasmine Shabazz (Buffalo, NY) added 10 points for Salem. Alexihonna Bush added 5 points and 8 rebounds for the Spirits. 

Salem returns to action this weekend at the Jackie Ammons Tournament hosted by William Peace. The Spirits will take on Hartwick on Friday at 6:00.
