Basketball defeats Emory & Henry by 10

Emory, VA-The Salem College basketball team defeated Emory & Henry 59-49 on the road. The Spirits were led by Satavia Taylor (Chicago, IL), who finished with 24 points. Salem improves to 8-3, while the Wasps fall to 2-10.

Salem jumped out early to a 12-1 lead in the first nine minutes. Emory & Henry was able to close out the half on a 26-12 run to take a lead into the break. Salem got the lead back midway through the 2nd half, and held on for an easy win at the end.

Taylor also had 7 rebounds, and the Spirits were led on the boards by Jasmine Shabazz (Buffalo, NY) with 9 rebounds. Shabazz added 11 points. Taylor led the team with 5 steals.

Salem forced the Wasps to turn the ball over 27 times. The Spirits also out-rebounded Emory & Henry 45-42. 

The Spirits return to action on Thursday, when they host Valley Forge at Winston-Salem State.
