Basketball falls to Hartwick at Jackie Ammons

Raleigh, NC-Despite a furious comeback, the Salem College basketball team could not come all the way back in a 51-46 loss to Hartwick. In the first round of the Jackie Ammons Tournament at William Peace, Salem furiously came back from a 19 point deficit to close the gap to 48-46 with ten seconds left. Salem falls to 0-3, while Hartwick improves to 3-0.

Tiffany Wildgoose (Nassau, Bahamas) led the Spirits with 12 points on 5-9 from the field. Bria Patterson (Winterhaven, FL) finished with 10 points for the Spirits. Patterson added five assists and three steals, while Satavia Taylor (Chicago, IL) finished with four steals. Jasmine Shabazz (Buffalo, NY) led the Spirits with eight rebounds. 

Salem was held to just two points in the first ten minutes. Hartwick held a 28-11 lead at the break. In the second half, Salem would storm back. Salem would go on a 35-9 run in the second half, before Hartwick scored the last three points of the game.

Salem will play the loser of the William Peace and Emory & Henry game in the consolation game tomorrow at 1:00.
