Basketball set to start season with two tough road contests

November 13, 2013

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College basketball team will begin their road to winning the Great South Championships with two tough road games this week. The Spirits and returning GSAC Player of the Year, Satavia Taylor (Chicago, IL), will play at Greensboro College on the 16th and at nationally ranked Emory University on the 18th.

Salem reached the Great South Conference Championship game last season, after they finished in last place the season before. The Spirits return four regular starters and nine players that saw regular playing time. They also have four newcomers on the squad. Taylor is joined by returning Great South All-Conference member, Jasmine Shabazz (Buffalo, NY), as two players that are expected to be important players this season.

Salem will play at Greensboro on Saturday at 2:00. The Greensboro College Pride were recently picked to finish in fourth in the USA South. Chevena Pickard will lead Greensboro, along with eight newcomers.

Salem will play Emory in Atlanta on the 18th at 6:00. Emory is ranked 13th in the D3Hoops preseason poll and the USA Today poll. They made it to the third-round of the NCAA Tournament last year.
